National Achievements

In 1928, he was appointed unanimously as President of Indian Academy of Fine Arts, Amritsar and had been its President till his death.

He also enjoyed a royal status of “State Artist” of various states like Bhopal, Bikaner Kotah, Patiala, Kapurthala and Malerkotla, during Maharaja’s era’s.

He represented as an active member of executive board of National Academy of Arts( Lalit Kala Academy from 1959 to 1975).

The President of India (Rashtrapati Bhawan, New Delhi) has given a prominent place of honor to his impressive painting medium canvas – oil 72” x 60’.

Many VIP’s like Chief Minister’s of various states, Governors, Cabinet Ministers have decorated the walls of their Govt offices, Museums, Residences. Some State Museums have decorated their prominent places with his paintings like Salarjung Museum, Hyderabad, Chandigarh Museum of Arts, Chandigarh. National Gallery of Art, Central Lalit Kala Academy, New Delhi, Indian Academy of Fine Arts, Amritsar. Golden Temple Museum Amritsar, Rajasthan Museum, Udaipur etc.

He was honored many times as chief guests from various institutions.

In 1973 he was honored with National Award of Padma Shri by President of India.

An art school named as “Thakar Singh School of Art” and the name of the building as “S.G. Thakur Singh Art Gallery.” at Amritsar by the society Indian Academy of Fine Arts, Amritsar.
